Updates…

Hey guys… haven been updating in a very very long time. I definitely have pictures etc that i want to share, but for now, i’ll just leave you guys with a summary.

1. I nearly burnt (rather, smoked) the house down. And destroyed an expensive pot.

2. I am actually watching soccer right now! Ever since my first match between Brazil and USA (not the finals – i am watching the finals replay now) in the Confederations Cup. I have so far watched 2 full games – the first was 91 minutes (i think) and the one i watched 2 days ago between Spain and South Africa was nearly 130 minutes. The adrenaline is amazing.

3. Had 2 of Shi Hui’s friends come over for dinner – we had alcohol (moscato – very weak), stewed pork belly (which i cooked, but was not up to my expectations), brownies (also not up to my expectations) – hai……

4. Made porridge using a new method – which was relatively successful – though not all i had hoped for.

5. The first reason why i had stopped blogging for a while was because i got sick with the flu – wasn’t swine flu – didn’t see a doctor but recovered in around a week or so.

6. Oh – about soccer again – i think Kaka from the Brazil team is kinda cute. (OK, now i sound like shi min..haha) I think i actually like his name more.

7. We have a new member of our soft toy family. We have Tiggy, Foggy and finally….Tattle! He’s the youngest of the family and other than his shell and belly, he is green! I shall take a picture and show it to guys one day. With Tattle, Foggy has become the older brother and Tiggy is now Uncle Tiggy.

8. I made Black Glutinous Rice today – one of my favourite desserts and breakfast foods. It was surprisingly easy and tasted good!

9. I am starting to dabble a little in make up. But i am the ultra lazy type – so i just want something that is easy and quick.

10. I can’t think of anything else i think. By the way, it’s not going so well for Brazil at the moment – it’s USA 2 Brazil 0.

11. Me and Hui will be going back to Singapore this Wednesday (1st July) till the 13th July. It was a sudden unplanned trip. But still, i am quite excited about going back but yet at the same time, Fish will be staying here all alone.. what a poor darling… he’s got Tattle and Tiggy to accompany him though.. =)

12. My cousin is having a third child – a little baby girl – sometime soon.

13. I bought a new jacket from Myers. It’s a Ben Sherman navy blue jacket that i soooo totally adore! Fish liked a skirt from Ben Sherman for me as well, but i decided to just get the jacket. The next day, we went to the Ben Sherman store at Bondi and found the last skirt of the same size (lucky me) at a $30 discount! YAY!

14. Oh – and with no malice at all – the South African supporters look really really amusing at the Confederations Cup. Esp when South Africa lost against Spain.

15. Fish just told me a gruesome bit of history regarding soccer – dunno if it’s true or not though.

16. I think soccer players must do loads of leap frogs – judging by the amount of jumping over other soccer players.

17. Brazil’s goal keeper just made a very funny face after losing a free kick. Haha…

18. oK….this is becoming a soccer-logue. I shall stop here and concentrate on the game. Hopefully i didn’t miss out anything.

See you guys in Singapore! Auf Wiedersehen.

My Current Favourite New Cookbook!

DSC01520

I just bought this book at Kinokuniya. It is a Taiwanese cookbook. In case you can’t read Chinese, the book name says ‘just like to eat eggs’.

The book has i think 70 recipes using eggs as the main ingredient.

There are beautiful pictures to accompany each recipe.

There are recipes from the very basic and more advanced.

It costs $28 and i am quite happy with it!

Yakisoba!

Hello guys, today is the official last day of semester!! YAY!!

So today, when we were thinking of what to cook for dinner, i thought of the dried soba noodles and fish suddenly recalled that we had yakisoba sauce. SO…. we decided on yakisoba noodles!

DSC01529
It is really quite simple. You can add anything into the dish – add anything in your fridge that you have to use up.

Ingredients added:

Mushrooms
Onions
Roast Chicken
Fried Bacon
Garlic
Carrots

This is really simple. Just fry the ingredients, then add the noodles and load on the yakisoba sauce and a little salt. Taste and i think you might really like it. =)

I decided to try an omelette yakisoba which wasn’t totally successful, but it still looked really good.

I added Japanese mayo with a little more yakisoba sauce, seaweed and bonito flakes.

Looks good eh?

Fish create this concoction of tomatoes, smoked ham, chorizo, onions and carrots with a chilli oil that we got from Portugali – our favourite Portuguese chicken place. It tasted beautiful! and we kept it. We’ve decided to use it the next time we cook pasta.

This, with a can of crushed tomatoes, shall become our pasta sauce. Just a note though, this is really salty because of the chorizo and smoked ham, so we won’t be adding any additional salt to the cooking water of the pasta and the can of crushed tomatoes.

We had a great dinner! and i hope you had a great one too!

Harvey Norman and Shoes

Harvey Norman made me so angry today!! I preordered the Sims 3 Collector’s Edition online around 15 days ago through the harvey norman website. In which an auto email was immediately sent to me saying that a store representative would call me by 3rd June to confirm my preorder. And so i waited.

At 3 odd this afternoon, i decided to give the Harvey Norman store at Bondi a call, since that was where i had nominated as my preferred store to pick up from. The girl on the line was friendly but they had no idea about any preorder or whatsoever that i was talking about. All she was able to tell was that they had 1 collector’s edition on order and yet she had no idea when it was due to arrive.

Seemingly, i am not the only one. I went online and found others who also preordered, called their store, and the people in the store had no idea what the hell they were talking about!!

I’m now just afraid that they might not have the collector’s edition anymore since i’ve checked a few places online and the collector’s edition have disappeared from the websites.

Anyways, i will be going down to Bondi Junction tomorrow to see if the shops there stock the collector’s edition and if i can get a good price. I only preordered Harvey Norman’s one because it was $99.

OK. That’s that. I, rather we, are also upset about something else.

The floors in our apartment are carpeted, even if they are not,

What is the polite thing to do when you enter someone’s house?! TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES!!!!

The people here, they don’t take off their shoes when they enter the house!! They walk all over the house with their shoes that who knows what they’ve stepped on!!

I’ve had builders, plumbers, property agents who don’t have the decency to take off their shoes! Oh, i think there’s this stupid thing that protects workers and so that are not supposed to take off their shoes – stupid and stupid.

Even if there is a cultural clash somewhere along the line, isn’t it only basic courtesy? We’re not even asking them to wash their feet or anything! I guess maybe different cultures have different attitudes, but back in Singapore, everyone takes their shoes off when entering any house at all. It is not polite and not showing respect to the person who has the hard job of cleaning the floors. Guests are all also expected (actually, its a natural thing to do) to take off their shoes, regardless of who the hell you are!

I wouldn’t dream of going into someone’s house without taking off my shoes unless told so – it is so rude.

Anyway, that’s all the ranting for today.

By the way, tomorrow is the last day of uni for this semester!! – oh…and the insistence of saying uni instead of school – as if it makes a very big difference.

That’s all – Bye!
